HOLDING WATER? [Message #1]

I've been on the program for about two weeks now and the scale has not gone down. It's starting to get depressing. Tad and many others have told me not to focus on the scale, but it's sort of depressing (which is why I'm writing this...so I don't get discouraged). Has anyone, women mostly, experienced a SLOW or NON-EXISTANT weight loss when starting weight training? I am hoping that I am holding water. It's like the scale is just STUCK at 230 pounds. I thought I'd lose a little quicker than most because I have a high weight and lots to lose, but I guess not. I'm NOT giving up...just venting...

don't worry. This does happen from time to time. If your wt doesn't drop within the next week we will have to change some things. The first two weeks can be strange, given the fact that we are often times changing food quantities. you are eating a higher quantity of food, while not neccisarily more cals but food each day you are. Also, you should be drinking a lot more water than you were. We are supporting lean tissue and most people come to me in a very depleted state and technically they would normally be at a higher body wt to begin with if they eat to their needs. But they carb starve themselves and once we put in the appropriate nutrients there is a lean gain almost immedeately. So don't worry, we will get you figured out and on the right path.

Women have finicky bodies when it comes to weight loss. Sometimes hormones can make you hold a couple pounds of water, for instance, my monthly cycle always puts 2-3 lbs of water and then 1 week after I lose it.
